Discovering more amazing radio
I’m constantly on the look out for different kinds of radio, things that interest, engage and inspire me as a radio producer. In my last post I pointed you in the direction of ‘This American Life’. After downloading the podcast of that program for the past 3 weeks I am completely hooked on it. If you are interested in having a listen then it is even easier at the moment as Radio National is airing the program week days at 11am over summer.
The discovery of ‘This American Life’ inspired me to check out the National Public Radio website and look at what else is aired. Among other programs I discovered is Fresh Air which is a great arts and entertainment program. My mate Mitch just introduced me to Radiolab. Radiolab is a science and technology based program, the great thing about this program is that it is put together in a very conversational style which really shows you that the two presenters are learning with the audience, it is amazing.
Radiolab is funded by Corporation For Public Broadcasters. After I discovered this I decided to check out what else they fund, oh my god!!! Take for instance Sound Portraits, this amazing program puts the microphone in the hands of an interesting person and asks them to paint an audio picture of themselves. From a kid from the projects to a prison officer in charge of executions in Texas we experience a day in the life of these interesting people.
If you want to find more great examples of radio then check out Radio Tapas this collecting great radio examples is more Tamzin’s game than mine.
